I was raised Christian, not by choice. For years, it caused me damage that I only recognised as an adult. Last year, I finally decided to face it and get it over with, once and for all. I started researching the Bible, old Christian prayers, etc for a year, more or less, for my master graduation project two years ago. Somewhere along the way I stumbled on medieval illuminated manuscripts. I fell in love with the format itself, the craft, regardless of what stories they were telling.
So I made my own version. This is basically a cat’s prayer before dinner. The grey cat here is my cat, Bomboloni, depicted as Saint Bomboloni with a golden halo, grilling a mouse for his family. And in the dark, you can see the silhouettes of his family coming home.
In the end, the anger that started all of these never really came back anymore, to this very day. So, safe to say, I quite made peace with my past as it was. And as a bonus, I discovered something meaningful I never knew before. My love for illuminated manuscripts, and the whole beautiful process behind them.
